This photo shows that even a plant that is classified as a weed can be beautiful. The dark purple berries of the Pokeweed plant contrast well with the magenta stems, and make a lovely combination with the teal colored background. Some berries are as yet unripe, colored light green. Pokeweed is also known as Pokeberry, Pokeroot, Inkberry, and simply Poke. Pokeweed is used as a food in some parts of the Southern US, referred to as Poke Salad, though all parts of the plant are poisonous to mammals - it must be boiled 3 times with the water being discarded each time. It is also being researched for use in solar power. DO NOT EAT POKE unless you are trained in the preparation of it.
