Postcard: Girl and Dogs
This is an adorable Victorian art image of a young girl standing in the dining room with her dogs. It was painted by the Victorian painter, Charles Burton Barber (1845-1894). He specialized in oil paintings of dogs with children. Charles Burton Barber exhibited at the Royal Academy and won many honors and awards for his dog paintings and his cat paintings. In the early 1870s Queen Victoria commissioned him to paint her favorite dogs. She remained his chief patron until the time of his death in 1894, at the age of 49. In addition to painting, he was also an illustrator of children's books and he dabbled in photography.
