Primate mother and baby magnet
by Rebecca_ReederAkmad: National Geographic cover 1975
Akmad, the mother shown here in June 2008, graced the cover of National Geographic magazine in October 1975, as the toddler on the ground, holding the hand of Dr. Birute' M.Galdikas, who founded and still oversees the operation of Orangutan Foundation International. Her baby son shown here is named Atlas. I donate 100% of my profits from the sale of this magnet (and all of my orangutan products) to support the work of O.F.I. For more information or to foster an orangutan orphan, see www.orangutan.org (note the ORG) OFI also has some limited edition photos of Akmad and Atlas for sale at their website.

Rebecca, This Is An Adorable Picture & Great Magnet!
I haven't been able to devote much time to Zazzle, but do drop in when I can. I get the ‘New Product Alerts’ and feel badly that I haven’t been around to look at and comment on your new items. Everyone’s new stuff looks fabulous! Ashley and I are still maneuvering around a few boxes in our ‘home away from home’, but we are enjoying where we are living. It is like being on vacation so we feel that our sanity is being balanced-out somewhat. It is good to have a sanctuary. Keeping an eye on the construction crew at our house takes time, plus we are constantly making decisions on the remodel while trying to keep the yard watered and mowed. All of this takes a great deal of time along with just living our daily lives! It is good that we have a retreat where we don’t have to deal with the mess and the dust during construction. Moving out turned out to be good thing! Thank you to everyone who has stopped by my gallery to say ‘Hello’ and leave comments. Your visits make me feel connected, albeit from afar. ♥♥ Diane

Oh to be born to privilege... an Alpha Mother, that's awesome (especially for the baby) lol
Theirs is such a complex hierarchy and yet their needs and wants are so simple. Thank you Rebecca for all you do to help these wonderful Orangutans. Blessings, Skye :o-)

Thank you to everyone who has visited since I last
checked this product. Akmad's little son truly seemed aware that his mother was an alpha female. he was very self confident around even the sub-adult male orangutans. However, he often kept one fist tightly closed around a hunk of his mommy's hair for quick retreat after grabbing a piece of fruit away from bigger boys.

A Mother's Love tote
Thank you, Lori, for your purchase.
There are many copies of the 1975 National Geographic for sale online -in addition to back copies at National Geographic itself. You might enjoy this magnet even more seeing Akmad as a little toddler on the cover. Also, here's another view of Akmad sitting peacefully with her impish little son.

Thank you for your purchase, Robin :-)
You have a very famous mommy orangutan on that magnet. If you do a Google search for the October 1973 issue of National Geographic, you'll see the cover photo since assorted copies are for sale as well as directly from National Geographic's back issues department. (I admit that I was amazed they had some left that were THIS old!) upright, and holding the hand of Birute Galdikas, founder of Orangutan Foundation International.
