Prisoners Exercising by Vincent van Gogh Mouse Pad
This painting by Vincent van Gogh is titled "Prisoners Exercising", which is a little misleading. They are people imprisoned. He painted it in 1890 during a short stay in an asylum. It is ironic that the painting itself became a "prisoner" during the Russian revolution. It and others of an extensive art collection was seized from a prominent Russian and stashed away for decades. This and other very important works by Mattise and others were stumbled upon in a civic building there. After the dust settled from the stir, the entire find was finally returned to public eye and placed on exhibit. My mother made a dash. This one struck her, in part because she didn't know it existed, the straight lines and the belief it is a self portrait. Note the man looking out. It just pulls you in.
