In the early 1900's, Rodeo was consider a men's sport. It was a small group of forward thinking females who decided that they could break that barrier and ride just as well as the men. These women, among them, Fox Hasting, Ruth Roach, Tad Lucas, Prairie Rose Henderson, Marge & Alice Greenough, laid the path that generations of female rodeo participants have since followed. Those Renegade Roses rode Broncs and Bulls, performed death defying acrobatics as Trick Riders and, when the last mount was ridden, took care of their families, as well. This is my tribute to the ladies who blazed a pretty big trail for me to ride. These photos come from my private collection of Vintage Rodeo photo postcards and Public domain photos.
