Space Tourists Discover Mad Genius' Lair

Last Tuesday a group of sight-seeing tourists stumbled on a strange, unknown tower in the valley west of the wind farms of Waukegan.

They notified the authorities - well, in fact they called the Travel Bureau, who mentioned it to a passing Patrolman - but efforts to enter the tower have proved unsuccessful and rather unpleasant for all concerned.

The tower's use of Transmogrifying Time Traps recalls the defenses at the Icelandic fortress of the formidable Dr. Rognvald - the infamous inventor of the "Toaster With Two Brains".

Rognvald has been eluding his pursuers for three years now and the discovery of his new lair would be a landmark in their hunt for the mad genius.

Nat Gonella and Henry Hall, acting Retropolitan Peace Officers who have been active in the continuing investigation, have been called to the site. Until their arrival the tower remains silent and impregnable - but for how long? Good luck, boys!

mad Science Conference

The Society of Demented Research Technicians will gather next week at the Retropolis Convention Center to present papers, review new methods and procedures, and award their prestigious award - the "Igor" - to the year's most prominent scientific assistant.

Accommodations are available at quite reasonable prices in hotels throughout the Experimental Research district.

Visitors are cautioned to take lodging in other areas of Retropolis unless they have a very good reason for attending.

(Please see the relevant chapter on the Experimental Research district in "So You Want to See Retropolis! - a Visitors' Guide to the Future That Never Was".)

Sky Pirates Sighted in Space
Sky Pirate Advisory

A Sky Pirates warning has been issued for the entire Kuyper Belt. That area should be avoided by all private traffic until the advisory is lifted.

It's worth mentioning that these advisories have become increasingly rare. Sensible travelers check the reports, but there is no occasion for alarm.

Don't let the depradations of these few maladjusted ingrates interfere with your vacation or your trip for business!

Retro Sci Fi Postcards

Sure, your days here in the Future are filled with adventures and new experiences - but don't forget to tell the folks back home!

Bradley W. Schenck is a shiftless layabout and wastrel - and yet is entirely self taught in that demanding field.

Born in California, the artist began making images in the middle 1970's and has seldom stopped, since.

Some of his earliest work in illustration was for small role-playing game companies. In fact a few of those little books now command such amazing prices that he wishes he'd kept boxes full of them.

During the late '70s and the 1980s, Bradley did more small press work and some illustration for music labels. At least one of those album covers was for a vinyl-pressed record. Which, like most everything, tends to make him feel foolishly ancient.

He spent a few years building musical instruments but eventually, when computers got interesting, he began to work in computer graphics.

That led to a decade and a half in which he was lost in the woods of the computer games business. Happily, he escaped in 2005 and has been living by his wits ever since.
