This commemorative poster print features a reproduction of a signed photographic calling card of General Robert E. Lee, supreme military commander of the Confederacy. Known as cartes de visite, these miniature portraits (~2.5" x 4") were invented in France in the early 1850s. It was common practice before and during the Civil War to acquire such portraits through gift or purchase, mail them to the individuals represented, and hope for their return--signed; taken in 1860.

picture not from 1860 but end of war era

General Lee grew gray headed during the war and looked like this by 1864. The above picture was not made in 1860, but rather 1864 or later. LRB

hello,,I have been looking for this likeness of lee to compare with my print for years,,looks like same area,,plse look on government,military,, you will find my graphic,,size in frame is 15.5 X 19,, in info would be appericated,,mickey
