"Roses and a Bumblebee" was created in watercolor in 1898 by American/French painter, Paul de Longpre.
Paul was originally from Paris but came to America and settled in Los Angeles in 1899 where he created a large beautiful garden. He was known to paint beautiful floral paintings from his garden.
He grew up in France where his father was a professional textile designer and painter. His father exhibited small albums of flowers at art exhibits in Paris. Later he left his family leaving his son, Paul. Later, Paul came to America and his paintings became a success in New York. He then moved to Los Angeles where he built a villa and created a large beautiful garden located along Cahuenga Boulevard, half an hour from Los Angeles at the foot of the Cahuenga Mountain Range.
He became even more famous with his beautiful floral paintings and was called "The King of Flowers". He had many colorful flowers in his large expansive scenic garden where he spent hours painting the most perfect floral specimens. People came from far and wide to view his villa in Hollywood and his garden, and of course his paintings.
