The great apes include gorillas, orangutans, and chimpanzees (and in more recent times, bonobos have been listed as a separate category and not a type of chimp). However, orangutans are the only great ape surviving in the wild outside of the Africa continent . In fact, orangtans - sometimes called "the red ape" because of their red hair - are found in only limited areas on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra and an even smaller area of Malaysia, The word orangutan means "people" (orang) of the "forest" (hutan).

Orangutans, sometimes mistakenly called monkeys, are gentle vegetarians who smell like fresh cedar. They have fingerprints like we humans and share three of our four blood types.

The artist donates 100% of her profits from the sale of this and other great ape products in her gallery to support Orangutan Foundation International whose Care Center spends many years preparing each toddler for release into protected areas of the rain forest!
