Santos is an oil and gas company with a patchy reputation. The company is involved in the exploration for and extraction of 'unconventional gas' in Australia, often beneath prime agricultural land. Farmers are locking their gates to protect their water and their land and people worldwide are waking up to the environmental costs of fracking.
Rogue methane emissions from unconventional gas fields stand to nullify natural gas' alleged advantage over coal-fired power generation in the fight against climate change, and the fossil-fuel industry's ruthless profiteering has to be exposed for what it is. When Santos sponsors cultural and sporting events like the 'Tour Down Under' cycling event, they do so with dirty money and a disregard for the need to maintain a livable planet, for people and the biosphere. Its time for Santos to quit fossil fuels, or face increasing public opposition.
