Watermargin was founded in 1947 by a group of World War II veterans who shared the purpose of promoting understanding between people of different races and religious affiliations. Over the years, the focus has expanded to encompass all intergroup relations. In the 1960's, Watermargin went co-ed, leading to a change in the motto from "All Men are Brothers" to "All People are Family."
