But Democrats and Republicans are working together to keep the direct evidence of U.S. government complicity and participation in torture from being released to the public. They've already erased the videotapes. They're refusing to release the photographs. Democrats and Republicans alike are promising to take the investigation of federal crimes "off the table" -- because politicians in both parties knew what was going on, which means that politicians in both parties have something personal to lose. But they've already lost their personal compass if their careers matter more to them than the integrity of U.S. government.
