I was actually close to Strom's first wife's mother who lived in the same town where I grew up. Of course, she was rather elderly , and I was a little boy. (You have to remember that his first wife was also much younger than him) I do not agree with many of Strom's political positions (MY GOD, HE WAS A DIXIECRAT), but he had many of the right ideas about constituent service. If a person in his district had any problem with the federal government, his staff got it handled! Perhaps that would be a lesson for the incompetents in Washington now: Take care of the people in your district, build their loyalty, and they'll keep you in office. I am sure many people who never voted for any other Republican in their lives voted for Strom. He had helped almost everyone or a close relative or friend of theirs. Many lessons could be learned from Strom! If you were to contact almost any of the South Carolina idiots in Washington now or Mark Sanford, the governor, they would do nothing. Incompetents and Fools!
