Many things were said about sharks, not praising them, but one thing is sure: shark always dominated seas. It´s not surprising that Mayas simply called him "xoc", which means fish (from where the word shark is probably born). Like wolves out of the water, sharks have some unique elegance in their movements, and their tapered shape clearly demonstrates how nature optimized them for lightning attacks. Maoris call the shark M´ao, and for centuries he joined their people during their long distance islands crossings, as a guide in the vastness of the Pacific Ocean.
