The Wealth Hungry Carp Card by norman888
Wealth Hungry Carp - The Chinese word for carp is "Li Yu" which means advantageous or lucrative. The carp symbolizes success in business through advantagous or beneficial means. Legend has it that the humble carp swims upstream against the rapid currents of the Yellow River to reach the Dragon Gate. Upon preparation it takes a courageous leap over the rapids and across the gate and transformed itself into the celestial dragon. This feat is comparable to the state examinations. The story symbolizes the olden days' scholar in preparation for his imperial exam. Upon successful attempt, he will enjoy a lifetime of wealth and prosperity as an imperial officer. The Carp therefore symbolizes great achievements and victories. Often the Carp is depicted as surrounded by shoals of smaller fishes (those who fail the leap across the gates!). This tells that the powerful upstream leap is no easy feat and that it meant long preparation and perseverance. The Carp therefore also symbolizes patience and determination. It is believed that the Carp's beard is the symbol of its mythical powers. You can place your Carp at your office or study room. - Water Color Painting by Norman Reutter; I added a real chinese coin to this painting.
