The Yellow Rose, 2006 ( Bernice Goings Reed) Postage Stamps
by mirtatoledoFrom the series: Flowers, Women and Birds
I saw a tiny, sepia-toned old picture of a fifteen-year old girl. I put it under a magnifying glass and I was captured by the warmth and light coming from her eyes. That is how the portrait of Bernice was born. She holds a rose in her hand, near her heart. The rose is yellow, a color that throughout history has been associated with the sun, an indispensable source of life on Earth. At that moment in her life, Bernice was Mother Earth, pregnant with her first child and full of joy and the promise of a new begining: the feelings associated with the yellow rose.
