This is a Japanese color print by the artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi (19th century). He created a lot of prints featuring women, and this is another one in the series. In this print we see a Japanese woman, dressed in the traditional Japanese kimono (with a lovely black and white pattern decorating it), while reading a book. Books in Japan in those days were also printed, both the writing and the pictures. Behind her there is a painting (or a print) of what looks like a Japanese fisherman working by the river. Red, blue, yellow, gold and green colors were also used in this artwork. Utagawa signed the print in Kanji characters and Hiragana (Japanese writing).
