Vesta Asteroid / Protoplanet Post Card
Simulated image of Vesta

This is a simulation by scientists, showing how they believe the surface of the protoplanet Vesta might look from the south pole. Vesta is situated in the main asteroid belt, and is being studied as part of NASA's Dawn mission. The data used to compile this image came from both the Hubble Space Telescope and various ground-based telescopes. It shows a colourful cratered surface with bright green, blue, turquoise / cyan, yellow and red areas, against a black background.
