A Classic 1888 Post Impressionist Painting, artwork that has passed into the public domain and makes wonderful gifts and other products.
Not quite as famous as his "The Starry Night," "Starry Night Over the Rhone" is felt by many to be a superior work. Painted in Arles during his time there, it is one of his studies of light at night. Although the name implies a focus on the stars, it is really the reflection on the river of the gaslight from the gas lamps that dominates the image.
Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) was probably the most famous Post-Impressionist painter. Never enjoying a great level of success or recognition during his life, his posthumous stature has grown enormously, and he has arguably influenced almost every artist since.
