Vintage Chicago, Regal Theater Father & Son Day Postcard
The south side of Chicago was the home the cities first African American neighborhoods. There were poor but there was also a thriving middle class and there were many thriving areas. The area around 47th street and what is now King Drive was an entertainment mecca and the flagship for the area was the Regal Theater located right on the southeast corner. It was a source of pride in the area for while it was owned by whites most of the staff were black and the venue played home to some of the biggest acts of the day.
