Vintage Florida Sport Fishing News Ad Print
Vintage Florida Sport Fishing News Ad Print
This news story first appeared in the New York Sun in 1916 and promoted sport fishing in the State of Florida. It measures 18" by 24" and has been brought back to life and presented here on vintage looking, heavy duty archival matte paper ready to be framed. Add a standard or custom frame right here or frame it yourself. This print will be a perfect addition to any hotel, fishing charter, vacation rental, resort or any home or business wanting an old time, vintage feel. Some of the text you can read is as follows - THE charm of Florida' climate in winter is all very well in its way and the gayety of its famous resorts may allure some people, but to the sportsman and the sportswoman the real attraction of the winter playground in the far South is the fishing. Of course when one thinks of fishing in Florida waters the royal tarpon instantly comes to mind and indeed there are few thrills to be compared with those given by a battle royal between the angler armed with a light rod and a big fish which is the incarnation of power and energy. For a man or a woman to conquer in such a struggle is to qualify for the highest honors which are the reward of the fisherman's skill. Yet the royal tarpon is only one of many fishes capable of testing the art of the angler, although the others may be smaller and less spectacular in the combat And outside of game fishes, there are many strange creatures to conquer. Alligators, for instance. Once upon a time shooting alligators was a favorite sport in the Everglades. Now the alligators have become too scarce for it to be indulged in any more and they fish for them instead, the purpose being to supply the demand for alligators for zoological parks. It is a sport requiring good deal of cunning and patience on the part of those who follow it, and it involves not a little danger from the powerful jaws and tail of the beast. For those who want to be scientific in their fishing and at the same time to avoid danger the pursuit of the sea cow, or manatee, may be recommended. It is entirely safe if not thrilling, as may be seen from the photograph reproduced herewith. The only drawback to the print is the photo quality that did not translate to newspaper print that well in the early 1900's.
