Vintage The Giraffe Costume Puppet
I guarantee you've never seen this image of a giraffe before! It's pretty unique! The Giraffe -- quite a different giraffe -- is the perfect gift for a giraffe lover!
The image shows a "giraffe" -- Nope! Fooled you! It's really two people dressed up in a great giraffe costume to make them look like a giraffe! The woman is at the back, holding onto the man at the front. The man is holding onto a long pole with a giraffe head at the top. Make the giraffe head out of paper mache, or find one at an antique store. The giraffe head can be realistic or a bit 'off' -- but this particular one is a gorgeous giraffe head. The giraffe head is fastened onto the end of the stick.
This kind of giraffe costume can be used for a Halloween party, or for a performance in a play; most plays, of course, have a need for a large giraffe! There's a cloth that covers the two giraffe players, which makes them look like it's one giraffe body. A rope for a giraffe tail may be added, just to make sure no one has any clue that it's really two people instead of an actual giraffe animal. What fun!
This "giraffe" image is from a photo from "Popular Amusements, for in doors and out of doors," a book published in 1902 for Victorian people looking for fun things to do, and pretending to be a giraffe is a wonderful example of the kinds of over-the-top amusements Victorian people had. "A good deal of fun may be costumeduced by the efforts of the animal (giraffe) to scratch his head with his hind leg."
What a cute giraffe! Just perfect for giraffe collector in your life!
