Vintage Tulip Pattern T-Shirt
In Europe, tulips are normally thought to be of Dutch origin, but until the 16 th century, tulips were unknown in Europe's gardens. The first tulip bulbs were brought from Constantinople to Vienna in 1554 by Ogier Ghislain de Busbecq, a messenger of the Habsburg Empire. This tulip, today known as “ Istanbul's Tulip” was first cultivated by the Chief of Religious Affairs, Ebussuud Efendi during the reign of Suleyman the Magnificent (1520-1566). Its heyday occurred mostly in the so-called Tulip Period , a program of democratic reforms between 1839 and 1876. In those days, 239 tulip varieties were cultivated with poetic names such as “ meadow beauty” , “fountain of life”, “diamond's envy”, “cloth of love”.
