The Whaleback Steamer ATIKOKAN washed ashore on the bank of the St. Clair River at Marine City, Michigan on August 17, 1913. A crowd gathers at this unusual sight. Famous Great Lakes photographer Louis Pesha kept his studio just beyond the beached ATIKOKAN . This whaleback was built in 1909 and was originally named the Str. JOHN B. TREVOR . She was renamed as the Str. ATIKOKAN in 1912 and operated until 1935, when she was scrapped.
