After you place your order at Zazzle, e-mail me at WllmJDurkin@netscacpe.net and give me your mailing address. Upon verificaton of your order, I will send you, free of charge, the Nightbeat CD. This is a $7.00 value. Read on. "Nightbeat" began as a radio series in 1950. It starred Frank Lovejoy as Chicago Star reporter Randy Stone. It is considered one of the best shows of its kind. It is my belief that it would make an excellent television program. To that end, I adapted several of the episodes into an hour long television format. Nearly all of the original radio scripts are retained within the new television scripts. Although initially told in thirty minutes, the Runyonesque stories could be quite complex. Because of time constraints, one can imagine the writers taking a longer script and replacing full scenes with description. Because the lead character was a reporter, this device worked well. My job was to maximize what they had to minimize. The hour television format gave me the opportunity to delve into aspects only described or alluded to in the original. Recently the screenplay for "Nightbeat: Big John McMasters" was a semi-finalist in the international screenplay writing competition Scriptalooza. This ranked it as high as ninth out of several thousand entries. In 2004, William J. Durkin Productions and producer Dan Collins of Colony Inc. joined forces to present "Nightbeat" live, onstage at the Gem Theatre in Garden Grove, California. This is the original cast recording of that presentation. Which, coincidentally, is also a facsimile of the television show soundtrack. So we have gone full circle. Here then is a new radio drama as it would have been presented so many years ago. This collector edition comes in a full size jewel case with liner pictures of much of the cast. To listen to a portion of the CD, click thr "Nightbeat" icon on the panel above. Once again, the CD quality is much higher. ![]() |
