About this design
32-pounders at Fort Moultrie - iPad Sleeve
19th-Century engraving of a 32-pounder seacoast gun mounted on a wooden barbette-carriage, combined with an 1860 photo of these same kind of pieces lining Fort Moultrie's Main Channel Battery, helping to guard the entrance into antebellum Charleston Harbor SC. The original diagram was drawn by Lt. Richard H. Rush of the 2nd US Artillery Regt, and engraved on copper by the famous David McClelland for publication in the "Instruction for Heavy Artillery" manual issued in 1851 by the War Department in Washington DC. The photograph was taken one summer afternoon in 1860 by the Charleston photographers James M. Osborn and Frederick E. Durbec, for a compilation of peacetime views. Beautiful mementos from a bygone era, ideal for lovers of Civil War or American military history.
