About This Design
Al Torsten, 1950 Playing Card Endorsement
Al Torsten, 1950 endorsement of Altenburg-Stralsunder Playing Card Company of Stuttgart. Al Torsten started as a skilled amateur sleight-of-hand magician who performed during off hours for his fellow German soldiers on the Russian Front during WWII. After the war he performed for Allied Occupation forces and then became a celebrity magician all over Europe. In 1950, at the first post war international magic congress on German soil, he competed against 300 magicians from 16 countries all over the world. He won the silver medal and was renowned as one of the best magicians in the world. He received the keys to the city of Munich and Cologne among his many honors and was the first magician on German television. He retired from the stage in 1955.
