About This Design
Ancient Mayan Sun Calendar Art Round Necklace
The famed Mayan Sun Calendar features on this gorgeous round necklace, The artwork was adapted by Skye Ryan-Evans. It is widely believed that according to the Mayan calendar, the world is due to end on December 21st, 2012. This is in part because the ancient stone calendar abruptly curtails its predictions and references to the future at that point. Who knows, maybe they just ran out of stone to fit more information in and we'll discover a 2nd stone calendar in November 2011. (I'm an optimist). Either way, the Mayan culture has held modern Man's awe and admiration for centuries and no doubt, will continue to do so long after New Year's day of 2013. To quote the Wikipaedia, "The Maya is a Mesoamerican civilization, noted for the only known fully developed written language of the pre-Columbian Americas, as well as its art, architecture, and mathematical and astronomical systems. Initially established during the Pre-Classic period (c. 2000 BC to 250 AD), according to the Mesoamerican chronology, many Maya cities reached their highest state development during the Classic period (c. 250 AD to 900 AD), and continued throughout the Post-Classic period until the arrival of the Spanish. At its peak, it was one of the most densely populated and culturally dynamic societies in the world." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayans 25% of proceeds from the sale of this beautiful art necklace is donated directly to Habitat for Humanity in support of their ongoing efforts to aid people in need of shelter.
