Colton's Illustrated & Embellished Steel Plate Map of the World on Mercator's Projection : Compiled from the Latest & Most Authentic Sources Exhibiting the Recent Arctic and Antarctic Discoveries & Explorations. A colorful and very large example of Colton’s mid 19th century grand map. Includes illustrations of cities and people along filigreed border and an inset view of the Antarctic Continent as seen by the U.S. Ship Peacock, January 19th, 1840. Other features include a lList of distances to and from various cities around the world at the top of map, an explanation of projection at the top of map, an explanation of scale in the lower left corner of map, and a list of geographical epochs in the lower right of map. Relief shown by hachures. High Resolution image suitable for large or small copies. This is a reproduction and may have been digitally enhanced to repair flaws, major stains, etcetera.
