Diagram of Civil War 32-pounder Gun - Mousepad
History at your fingertips: a splendid 19th-Century technical drawing of a 32-pounder seacoast gun, as seen from overhead while mounted on a wooden barbette-carriage. Taken from the official "Instruction for Heavy Artillery" manual published in 1851 by the War Dept in Washington DC, its original was drawn by Lt. Richard H. Rush of the 2nd US Artillery Regt, and engraved on copper by the famous David McClelland. Such guns would be used by both Union and Confederate forces in coastal forts and field-fortifications throughout the Civil War. A beautiful reminder of a bygone era.
