Gift of Gold Large Tote Bag
Gim sceal on hringe ● standon stēap and gēap Gems shall be in rings, standing steep and broad. The Kingston Down brooch is a composite disc brooch made from gold, garnet, blue glass, paste and shell. The cells under the garnet wafers are stamped gold foil inlays that catch the light. The zoomorphic forms (the wee beasties) were formed from beaded wire. The finest examples of these brooches were made in Kent, and are usually found in pagan burial mounds. Disc brooches were worn by men and women at the shoulder or throat. The giving of jewellery, in particular, rings was a means of bestowing status by chieftains and demonstrating generosity, a quality the Anglo-Saxons valued in their leaders. Hand drawn with inks and polychromos. Processed by the artist.
