Ah, wedding planning – one of the most exciting, stressful, fun, chaotic, and gratifying things a person can do. But the result? Totally worth it. With the right amount of research (and constant reminders that you’re marrying the love of your life), it’ll be that much easier.
Today, we’re here to discuss the morning of your wedding! Yes, the ceremony and reception are the main events; however, getting the timeline just right for the morning is more important than you’d think! Essentially, it sets the precedent for the day; keeping things as organized as possible will allow you to see through the day with minimal hitches. Once you know what to do, you’ll be able to accurately estimate when. Of course, every wedding day is different and requires different lengths of time for each event. This guide is designed to accommodate exactly that, providing you with an average timeframe for each activity, but ultimately, you’ll have a better idea of how much time you think you’ll need!
Rise and Get Ready to Shine! – 7:30 A.M.
Up and at ’em! Set an adequate time to pull yourself out of bed and revel in the fact that today is the day you tie the knot! This is the perfect opportunity to reflect, journal, read, and get in a bit of doomscrolling (or anything else you feel will help prepare you for the day ahead).
Timeframe: Around 20-30 minutes.
Fuel Up and Hit the Road! – 8:00 A.M.
Before you begin the whole getting-ready process, make sure you grab a nice cup of tea or coffee and some grub. This is to keep you going until your light lunch, so we’d recommend something easy-to-eat with lots of protein for sustained energy, like eggs with avocado toast, Greek yoghurt with berries, açai bowls, or smoothies!
Timeframe: Around 50-60 minutes.
Let the Pre-Wedding Prep Begin! – 9:00 A.M.
Now we open up on the first chapter of your wedding day love story, and it begins with laughter, background music, and some of your favorite people experiencing it with you. For the brides, stock up your makeup bags and hair styling tools. For the grooms, grab fresh razors and get a trim fit for the gods! If you’ve hired professionals, then that’s one less thing to worry about!
Timeframe: Around 20-30 minutes (though the whole process will take 4-5 hours, the next few steps will happen in that timeframe).
Capturing the Transformation! – 9:30 A.M.
This is roughly the time your photographer should roll up! Capturing the whole process in real time, with those cute, candid moments, will be something you’ll cherish just as much as the pictures of you at the altar. A popular choice nowadays, if you don’t feel like hiring a professional, is handing out a bunch of single-use film cameras to the wedding party (and keeping one for yourself). This is your big day, but it’s also momentous for your loved ones, so grab some shots of them too!
Timeframe: Around 50-60 minutes.
A Light Pause! – 11:30 A.M.
This might be your last opportunity to get a proper meal in before the ceremony, so load up (pro tip: avoid anything that’ll cause excessive bloatedness). We recommend hummus, fruit salads, charcuterie, or very simple sandwiches. Keep plenty of napkins on standby in case of any crumbs or spillages, especially if champagne is in the mix.
Timeframe: Around 50-60 minutes.
Gift Exchange! – 12:30 P.M.
You may be getting a whole lot of gifts today, but there’s still some time to gift everyone else, too! Well, not everyone… we’d suggest your mother, father, the respective wedding parties, the ring bearer, the flower girl (or boy), and any other loved ones you’d like! It’s also popular to present your significant other with a gift, but if you’re avoiding the reveal, have someone be your personal delivery person. They can’t really say no; it’s your wedding day after all.
Timeframe: Around 20-30 minutes.
The Grand Outfit Reveal! – 1:00 P.M.
Keep the photographer in sight because it’s the moment everyone’s been waiting for (aside from the actual ceremony) – the grand reveal of the soon-to-be-married couple! For a wholesome touch, have your mother or father complete the dress or suit by getting them put on the necklace or cufflinks!
Timeframe: Around 50-60 minutes.
Vroom Vroom to the Venue! – 2:00 P.M.
No matter how you choose to get to the venue, be it a limo, a rental, or a horse (happens more often than you’d think), allow yourself extra time, because you wouldn’t want to be late to your own wedding! This is your chance to squeeze in a glass of bubbly or two, which might help with the nerves.
Timeframe: Around 20-30 minutes.
The First Look! – 2:30 P.M.
Drumroll please! You’re about to lock eyes with your other half for the last time before you say “I Do.” Here’s an idea for you – a heartfelt trend that’s gaining traction is to hand your significant other an ‘Open When’ envelope containing a letter that says something only meant for their eyes, the very moment they see you. This could be a sentimental message, something to calm the nerves, or some final words you’d like to impart before the knot is officially tied!
Timeframe: Around 20-30 minutes.
Capturing the Family Love! – 3:00 P.M.
Get ready because you’re about to serve face for the next 45 minutes! The photographer will have their hands full because pictures with the parents and the wedding party will have to be locked in, then (obviously) turned into a very cute photo album!
Timeframe: Around 35-45 minutes.
The Final Touches before “I Do”! – 3:45 P.M.
Keep a mirror on standby – you’ll have one last opportunity to do some final touchups before being whisked away down the aisle! Don’t forget to make sure you have something old, new, borrowed, and blue (if you’re thinking of partaking in this tradition).
Timeframe: 20-30 minutes.
Let the Ceremony Commence! – 4:15 P.M.
It’s finally here! The moment you’ve been waiting for. There’s nothing else to do but walk down the aisle, say your vows, exchange your rings, kiss the love of your life, and set sail to a happily ever after.
Timeframe: 45-60 minutes.
Remember, the day of the wedding will always carry a certain level of stress. It’s only natural that you’d want everything to go perfectly. But the best thing you can do is detach from that idea. Why? Because nothing in life is perfect! So just have fun and revel in the fact that you’re surrounded by all of your loved ones.
