While baby showers can be wonderful celebrations of a future bundle of joy, they also tend to have some less than adorable activities included with them. Instead of planning those traditional baby shower games, celebrate your new arrival by checking out these 6 things to do at a baby shower instead!
Baby Bodysuits Decorating
This baby shower activity is an oldie but a goodie! Supply your guests with blank baby bodysuits and plenty of items to decorate them with. Some good places to start are fabric markers, iron-on fabric designs and fun phrases for inspiration written down nearby. Suggestions for some witty bodysuit phrases are “I still live with my parents”, “I drink until I pass out” or “Full diaper loading now…”, all of which your creative guests will love!
Letter Decorating
Many baby showers have an activity in which guests are asked to decorate a wood letter for the wall of the new baby’s nursery. To ensure you get a selection of letters that go with your nursery style, put out paints, markers, stickers and fabric that are all in the same color family or theme. That way you’ll have a beautifully unique wall, but not one that clashes too much. Pro tip: If the parents have already decided on the name of the baby, use the first letter of the name as the focal point by making it a larger letter or more pronounced than the rest.
Mad Libs
Everyone loves a good round of Mad Libs, and the gathering at a baby shower is no different. Prepare custom slips of paper that feature the parent’s names and include fun fields for your guests to fill in with their own creativity. At the end of the party, read the Mad Libs out loud and pick the funniest one to win a special prize!
Blindfolded Diaper Changing
Instead of the melted chocolate bar in the diaper game, test the know-how of your guests when it comes to diaper changing! Have a baby doll on hand, blindfold your guests one at a time and then time each one for how long it takes to remove and replace the fake baby’s diaper. The fastest and best-wrapped baby wins!
Baby Product ‘Price is Right’
How well do you and your guests know the prices of everyday baby items? Test your party by having one person present the photo and description of baby-related items like diapers, wipes, pacifiers or a stroller and have each person write down a guess of how much it costs. Just like the real show, whoever guesses closest without going over, wins!
Baby Face Mashup
This activity will tap into the creative side of your guests’ imaginations. Print out a few different photos of the parent’s faces and then cut out the ears, nose, eyes and mouth. Then, mix up the elements of both faces to see what the little nugget might grow up to look like!
Baby showers are a wonderful way to welcome a future child, but the traditional games of measuring the mom’s stomach and guessing which chocolate bar is which in a diaper are slightly outdated.
