Your beautiful bundle of joy has finally arrived, and you’re so moved that you could shout it from the rooftops! However, your exclamations are likely to reach only the ears of disinterested, bemused, or mildly amused passers-by. Thus, we recommend taking a more targeted approach to delivering your good news. Here at Zazzle, we’ve got a breathtaking selection of birth announcement cards to choose from, personalize, and mail to friends and family members across the country—and beyond. If you’re looking for the right card or the right greeting to use for this occasion, or you just need some general tips about sending birth announcements, read on and we’ll give you all the info you need!
When should I send my birth announcements?
In those first few weeks, and even months, after your baby’s arrival, the last thing you need to be stressing about is mailing announcement cards. If it’s your first child, you’ll have to learn the parenting ropes. And if it’s your second, third, or fourth, you’ll already know the ropes, but you might have to use them to lasso the older kids from time to time. In between, you’ll want to find some time for yourself—to relax, as well as to connect with and enjoy the new addition to your family.
Etiquette says that you should send the announcements within the first six months, but we say take all the time you need. Just don’t leave it until the kid is graduating high school before letting everyone know.
What should I include in my birth announcement?
The name of the baby and their birth date, as well as the names of their parents and any siblings, are all pretty much essential. After that, you can provide as much or as little detail as you like. The baby’s weight and length, as well as the place and time of birth, are traditional details, and you might also want to include the gender if it’s not clear from the name. Some people like to give the name of the person who brought the child into the world, whether it’s a doctor, midwife, or doula, and including the names of both sets of grandparents is also a nice touch. Everyone will be eager to get a first look at your little darling too, so a photo is always a good idea, though not a requirement. Finally, if you’ve decided to set up a website for the baby, where people can see photos and other birth info, leave messages, or view a gift registry, you can also add the address to your announcement.
Who should get one of my announcements?
Everyone loves to receive good news like this, so spread the joy far and wide! If you’re on a budget, however, just make sure you cater to family members and close friends first. For those nearest and dearest to you, these are more than just mere announcements; they’re keepsakes, sure to be cherished for years to come. You can always use social media and/or messaging apps to spread the news further afield. Or, you could personalize one of our digital templates for free, and send digital announcements to those who didn’t receive cards in the mail.
