About This Design
John Bunyan Tie #4
John Bunyan (1628-1688), author of The Pilgrim's Progress & Christian Behavior is considered one of the greatest among the Puritan writers. John Bunyan was imprisoned for 12 years in Bedford when King Charles II enacted the Clarendon Code, establishing certain articles to maintain the preeminence of the Church of England over other denominations, among them was the 5-Mile Act, which stated that non-conforming ministers could not preach within 5 miles of an incorporated town or village; and also, the use and conformity of the Anglican Church's Book of Common Prayer; two things that Mr. Bunyan was loathed to do, and therefore, was arrested and placed in charge at the Bedford gaol.
