"2013 is Year of Snake - answering a question from Rhys"
2013 is year of snake.
Rhys asked me why the character of my design is different from others'.
The word for snake in Japanese is "Hebi" and in Chinese is "Shé" and written in Kanji/Hanzi as "蛇", but the traditionally Chinese and Japanese both use different characters for the zodiac symbols using the names of the traditional "Earthly Branch" which is allocated to each of 12 animals. Young people who are no longer familiar with this tradition may use the actual animals names and, to make it easier, I often use actual animal names in my designs. However, for the year of snake, the character of earthly branch looked better in my design and chose the traditional name for this year because the character itself has the shape and the movement of a snake.
I have been away from this site for a long time. I was working on a couple of new projects that kept me busy and away from this place. Thank you all for your kind comments and I am sorry I didn't respond to your kindness sooner. Nonetheless, I appreciate your friendship and kindness very much.
