She grew up in Philadelphia and first studied art at the Pennsylvania Academy if Fine Arts. She moved to Paris in 1866-68 and studied under several French artists. She returned to France in 1873 and became exposed to the impressionist. She exhibited in the 1879 Impressionist Exposition. She often painted social scenes with women and the interaction of women and children.
