About This Design
Scream by Munch ~ screaming man w red orange sky Card
Famous work of Expressionist art by Norwegian painter Edvard Munch depicting screaming man on bridge overlooking blue river against orange landscape. Notable for its bright color palette of blood red orange, navy blue, sky blue, and indigo and for its repeating patterns of bold color swirls. Four versions of painting exist, one in the National Gallery in Oslo, Norway. Various theories exist as to the inspiration for this masterpiece of Expressionism. One theory posits Munch was influenced by his proximity to a local lunatic asylum where his sister was hospitalized. Another credits a visit to The World’s Fair of Paris where he viewed an exhibit featuring a Peruvian mummy. The work has inspired countless subsequent works in the nihilist, existentialist, modern, and post-modern schools of art and literature.
