About This Design
Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte Mug
Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. (Un dimanche après-midi sur l'île de la Grande Jatte) Pointillism Painting by Georges Seurat. A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte shows members of each of the social classes participating in various park activities. The tiny juxtaposed dots of multi-colored paint allow the viewer's eye to blend colors optically, rather than having the colors blended on the canvas or pre-blended as a material pigment. Georges Seurat (1859 – 1891) was a French Post-Impressionist painter and draftsman. His large work A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte (1884–1886), his most famous painting, altered the direction of modern art by initiating Neo-impressionism, and is one of the icons of 19th century painting.
