About Teflon Don:
Donald Askew Jr. aka Teflon Don who grew up in the Breedlove neighborhood of Smoky City, in Memphis, TN. He grew up most of his life without his father (who was a professional boxer at the time) and was raised by his mother and grandmother as an only child. His mother, a single mother working 3 jobs to pay the bills had to count on his grandmother in the early 90's, who raised him most of his life, and inspired him to follow his heart and dreams.
In 1995 he first started freestyling with Trezevant High School classmate Mario Mims aka Yo Gotti (Pologrounds/Jrecords recording artist)who at the time was called "Lil Yo" and Christopher Ferguson which they all were doing it for fun and battling on the classroom and cafeteria tables. In 1998 ,Teflon Don transferred to Oakhaven High School and thats were he got a chance to hook up with Phillip Dubone and Mr.Sche to record his first demo. "When I wasn't at school I was in the studio working," Teflon Don said.
On April 29, 2001, he made one of the biggest choicest he could make,which was, joining the army,where he got his name.He was stationed in Fort Hood,Tx but continued to record music in Killeen Tx and he attended every open mic he heard about. In 2002 he signed with Michael Vonne Nelson dba I&I Productions which later became I&I Records which was managed by Renae Noriega. Under her management he got a chance to open up for Magnificent, Slim Thug, and Lil Jon.In 2003 he was deployed to Iraq for "Operation Iraqi Freedom".Teflon Don continued to perform in showcases held by Dominique Bullock dba Jaguarr Productions .In 2005,The contract was up,Teflon Don and Sabie Don (Reggae recording artist from the Virgin Island) took a trip to Atlanta and signed a management deal with Larry Hudson. Under his management both artist obtained a production and a publishing deal with 2Face Productions and Antron Music Publishing.
The same year of 2005,Teflon Don moved back to Memphis TN, this is were he started recording with James Broadnax aka Subject dba Gutta Butta Productions, who introduced Tom Skeemask( A Memphis rap pioneer) to Teflon Don.In 2007,Teflon Don and Tom Skeemask collaborated on a track entitled "I Represent" produced by So So Def producer Courtney Travis aka Young Juve .This song is the single to his album God the Government the Game and it is what won the 2008 Memphisrap.com Showcase event in front of major industry professionals Wendy Day,Kurt "KC" Clayton,Peppa Williams,and many more....
Year 2009,Teflon Don was a nominee for 2009-2010"Best Indie Rap Album of the Year".This is the same year that he created the NBA anthem for the Memphis Grizzlies entitled "M.E.M.P.H.I.S. Grizzlies".He then obtained a ringtone deal with VIO Mobile and a distribution deal with Select-o-hits.Teflon Don then caught the attention of the filmmakers Ryan Watt and David Keary between 2009 and 2010.Teflon Don obtained 2 movie sound track deals with the "Money Makers" movie and Daylight Fades" movie.
In April 2010, Michael Sykes(Souljah Boys Manager) aka Miami Mike dba Palm Tree Ent/SODMG contacted Teflon Don with a management contract.Under his management Teflon Don has collaborated with artist signed under SODMG and performed at Palm Tree Entertainment events.Teflon Don has been under negotiations with Rock Gamer Studios/MTV Games.Teflon Don loves his city he participated at the "Rock 4 Love","Youth Peace Rally",and all of the Celebrity Basketball Games held in Memphis,TN.He is destined for greatness with a pure heart to help others come up with him.
