Undisputed World War Champions American Military Mug
Undisputed World War II Champions - part two of the back to back World War champs series, but also a sobering reminder of the heroes who lost their lives fighting for freedom in military conflicts. This historic photo mug will be appreciated by a history buff or military veteran as it features a part of American history- the landing on Okinana on "L Day" April 1, 1945. Waves of young soldiers put their lives on the line in this deadly, famous battle, and the Bronze Star / Purple Heart Marine who sent this photo home noted that it was April Fool's Day. Sobering statistics about this World War Two battle: " More people died during the Battle of Okinawa than all those killed during the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki : 38,000 Americans wounded and 12,000 killed or missing; more than 107,000 Japanese and Okinawan conscripts killed, and it is estimated that 100,000 Okinawan civilians also perished in the battle." President Franklin D Roosevelt (FDR) died less than two weeks later, and the battle on Okinawa continued for several months. This photo is from my family's personal collection.
