【とくがわあおい】徳川宗家においても、葵紋の蕊は初めはほとんど一定していなかった。文政年間（１８１８～３０）御服所後藤縫殿助から幕府に書き上げた『御紋控書』によってこれを見ると、家康・秀忠・家光の三代は三十三蕊、家綱は十九蕊と二十三蕊、綱吉は二十三蕊と二十七蕊、家宣は三十一蕊と三十五蕊、（原本は家継を欠いている）吉宗は二十三蕊、家重・家治はともに十三蕊を用いた。このころから将軍家の紋章もまた十三蕊に定められたのか、その後はいずれも十三蕊を用いた。（沼田頼輔著「日本紋章学」Ｐ４０７）／同書には１３代家定以降の図案は掲載されていない。そこで、紋典・平安紋鑑を始めとして各種の紋帳や家紋書を１０冊以上調べると全てに１３蕊の徳川葵が掲載されている。それらは呼称や図案に多少の相違はあるものの、蕊の配列や中央の蕊が葉柄に繋がっており、その葉柄は外輪と一体化しているという共通点がある。以上のことを踏まえながら、本図案は主に「紋の志をり」を参考に作図したものである。(2013/3/26作図)
