15 Octavian's 15th Legion T-Shirt

15 Octavian's 15th Legion T-Shirt

This Legion was formed by Octavian in 41-40 BC, one of many Legions that he used immediately to defeat the rebel pirate Sextus Pompeius and restore Rome's grain supply. After the decisive Battle of Actium in 31 BC, and Octavian became Emperor Augustus, the Legion was given its title, as the victory was attributed to Octavian's favorite God, Apollo. In 6 AD, the Legion fought under Tiberius against the Marcomanni, and later it aided in surpressing a rebellion in Pannonia. When Augustus died in 14, the Legion was stationed at Carnuntum, which had been a native town upon its arrival, but the length of the Legion's stay turned it into a prosperous, Romanized city. In 62, the Legion was sent to Syria to occupy the newly-conquered kingdom of Armenia, and afterwards it was briefly stationed at Alexandria. In 66, Emperor Vespasian's son Titus led the Legion in the war against the Jews, taking Jotapata, where they captured the Jewish General that would become the historian Flavius Josephus. The Legion took part in the Dacian Campaigns of the Emperors Domitian and Trajan. In 115, it fought in Mesopotamia. In 134, the Governor of Cappadocia, Arrian of Nicomedia, led the Legion against the Alans, which he wrote about in his 'Ektaxis'. In 162-66, the Legion fought against the Parthians, and in 176 under Marcus Aurelius in his Germanic Wars. In 197, it again fought against the Parthians under Severus, and helped take the capital of Ctesiphon. It took part in numerous campaigns during the third century, and at the beginning of the fifth century it was based at Satala, in Cappadocia. Its emblem is unknown.

Good quality dark Heather gray, Gildan brand shirt. -it was next up from basic choice and cost about $20 per shirt. Not too thick or thin. Washed and dried well, no major shrinkage. Not see-through.
