19 Ancient Rome's 19th Legion - Eagle T-Shirt

Very little is known about a 19th Legion. Julius Caesar had formed a 19th Legion out of Pompeian troops that had surrendered to Caesar at Corfinium in 49 BC, and it had spent the Civil War with Pompey on garrison duty in Sicily, but nothing is known of the unit after that. Octavian founded a 19th Legion after the Battle of Philippi in 42 BC, using it as one of many units to put down the rebel pirate Sextus Pompeius and restore Rome's grain supply. This Legion, along with the 17th and 18th, was destroyed in the Tuetoburg Forest disaster in 9 AD. Its eagle standard would be recovered in 15 among the Bructeri.
