This is one of a pair of reproduction Victorian sculpted molded bird tiles in a rich majolica we'd describe as a cinnabar color. The original antique tiles were made by Minton China, one of the premier English tile producers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These Victorian tiles are also suitable for Arts & Crafts, Craftsman, Bungalow, and other styles of decorating. Note that, although the reproduction tiles look as 3-dimensional as the original, they are printed in a trompe l'oeil ("fool the eye") style that captures all of the carved detail of the originals on a flat, smooth tile.

I ordered this design and the other bird companion piece in multiples to use for tiling an antique mantelpiece. These look SO authentic, and the color is so rich and beautiful, nobody would know it isn't the real deal! I literally smoothed my hand over the surface when I first got them, because the relief illusion was so perfect! Thank you so much! I'll be recommending you to all my old house friends. Perfection! From the pictures we needed to replace two tiles that had the old toothbrush and soap dish and the tile guy said two tiles would have to be removed. The tiles were PERFECT! just a slight color difference to the naked eye but they match pretty darn good. Tile guy had to shave the back because the 1957 tile was thinner but as you can see it worked out great! We are elated over the moon happy, Thank you!
