50-Star American Flag: Old Glory Stars and Stripes Gunmetal Finish Lapel Pin
The 50-star flag, a powerful symbol of American unity, has an origin story as unique as the nation it represents. In 1958, a young high school student named Bob Heft, living in Lancaster, Ohio, faced a history class assignment: design a new flag for the United States. - Heft, a visionary teenager, didn't limit his imagination to the 48 states that existed at the time. He boldly predicted that Alaska and Hawaii would soon join the Union, and so, he created a flag adorned with 50 stars. His teacher, however, was skeptical of this ambitious prediction and initially awarded him a B- for his project. - Undeterred by his teacher's initial assessment, Heft, with the encouragement of his family, took matters into his own hands. He presented his 50-star flag to his congressman, who, intrigued by the young student's foresight, brought it to the attention of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. - The President, impressed by the thoughtful design, held onto the flag. And when, as Heft had foreseen, Hawaii became the 50th state in 1960, President Eisenhower officially adopted the 50-star flag as the new national emblem. - The flag's design itself is a testament to American ideals. The 13 alternating red and white stripes represent the original 13 colonies that declared independence from Great Britain. 1 The 50 white stars on a blue field symbolize the 50 states that now comprise the United States. Red signifies valor and bravery, white represents purity and innocence, and blue signifies vigilance, perseverance, and justice. - Thus, the 50-star flag, a beacon of American unity and strength, flies today thanks to the vision and determination of a single high school student. His story serves as a powerful reminder that even the most powerful symbols can have humble beginnings and that the future of a nation can sometimes be shaped by the unexpected contributions of its youth.

To do again, I would order the JEB Stuart in the small round style. That is just my personal preference. Also, I like the Forrest pin with the Confederate National Flag background since he fought in the army of Tennessee. However, I would prefer the Confederate Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia as the backdrop for the Stuart lapel pin ... as you well know, Stuart commanded the cavalry arm of the Army of Northern Virginia and fought under the Southern Cross or Cross of Saint Andrew. Karl Brauneis, Lander, Wyoming. Excellent - very clear and bold. +
