Abraham Lincoln Magnet

Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States. (1809-1865) Abraham Lincoln had been a local postmaster, a deputy county surveyor, a state representative for four terms, the ony Whig member of Congress in the term beginning 1846. He was a powerful lawyer and had almost become the vice-presidential candidate of the Republican Party in 1857 (which was then in its infancy as a political party). During his term of office, the nation split in two, beginning the Civil War, otherwise known as the War Between the States. He is felt by many to be one of our greatest presidents. He was assassinated ub 1865, thus ending a brilliant career, but with the knowledge that he had taken the important steps to end slavery in the United States forever.
