Akrotiri Fisherman Postcard

This is a reproduction of the “Akrotiri Fisherman” from Santorini, Greece. This frescoe was created before about 1600 BCE when the town of Akortiri was buried in volcanic ash during the cataclystic eruption of the volcano under the island. This fresco among others was discovered in the excavations that began in 1967. The male figure holds fish in both hands which are tied together with a yellow string. He has a companion on the oposite wall and they both appear to be engaged in a religioius ritual, perhaps a fish sacrifice. They are walking in the direction of an offering table found in the norhtwest corner of the room. The fresco is in the National Archeological Museum in Athens.
