Brooks Railway Locomotive Works 1890 Poster. It was officially formed on November 11,1869. The company was merged with several other manufacturers in 1901 to form the American Locomotive Company
Over all of its time, ALCO produced about 75,000 locomotives with more than 63% of them built in Schnectady, NY. In fact, all of the locomotive manufacturing (except in Canada) was consolidated in Schnectady by 1931 and continued until 1968.
