ANCIENT COPPER PEORIA FALCON RESTORED Postcard
ANCIENT COPPER PEORIA FALCON RESTORED Postcard ... My 2022 / 2023 Computer Reconstruction of the Pre-Columbian Indigenous Native American Mississippian Ancient Copper Peoria Falcon found in Peoria, IL, before 1859. Pre-Columbian means it was made before the arrival to America of Christopher Columbus (so before 1492). In fact it was dated hundreds of years before that ... approximately AD 1000 - AD 1200. This means it could even be Pre-Viking-Discovery-of-America (circa AD 1000). Another way to describe this period is Pre-Contact. When I read that archaeologists said this artifact had been described as having been made with bilateral symmetry I realized I could use my laptop computer to reconstruct this corroded dark green copper artifact by copying the more intact side, flipping it, and placing that over the more broken side. Then, I gave the color a more new copper color. I learned through researching this that local Indigenous Native Americans had discovered pure copper in the upper Michigan Peninsula called the Keweenaw Peninsula as well as the nearby Lake Superior Isle Royale as long ago as circa 7,500 BC! That means about 9,500 years ago! The early industry here used the copper to make practical tools such as needles, awls, projectile points, knives, axes which were traded for thousands of years. Eventually, a ruling class wanted ceremonial art such as the Ancient Copper Peoria Falcon and similar Bird-Men motif found at Cahokia in Southern Illinois and in Missouri. All this amazed me. Why weren't we taught all this in school? It is likely that the copper came from the Lake Superior region. It is possible this artifact was made in and imported from Cahokia.
I used this reconstructed image for cards, postcards, stickers, all which you can find on my zazzle store here.

I joined Postcrossing a few months ago and wanted postcards to represent my state well. I found them on Zazzle. I purchased numerous cards and was impressed with all of them. Excellent! The colors are beautiful. The cards have the exact look I wanted. I couldn't be happier.
